We got our first horse when she was 8. She's now 23, and still thinks she's 8. I am so fortunate to have experienced with her much of what you have described--the centaur-like feeling of being one, sharing blood, breath and brain. It is difficult to describe the soul-satisfaction of thinking "left" and having the four hooved legs beneath you carry out that thought.<BR/><BR/>My little Cindy is a short coupled quarter pony, not a TWH, so I can't make the same claim to not having lost my balance a few times as a beginning rider. But I'll proudly state that on the few timnes that I left the saddle, Cindy came back to find out why I had left her alone, and invited me to remount.<BR/><BR/>Cindy says she's not yet ready to retire from barrel racing--maybe we'll take up mounted shooting! But I know the day will eventually come when she'll not only give up chasing cans, but cease from her impatient nudging to hurry up and ride. Hopefully I'll be in a living situation where, like you, I can spend my horse's golden years thanking her every day for such good companionship.<BR/><BR/>How's that saying go?
