Sorry...I meant to say FactChecker. I went to check FactChecker on Snopes, having recognized the style of the writing. The comments on FactChecker are almost exactly quoted from Snopes--which often parrots the liberal line on political issues. The "facts" have been offered in several places, always in a similar tone of writing. Somebody is copying someone's "research."
Whoever claims the win here, a lot of individuals and organizations with agendas want to make light of this and claim responsibility for bringing it to a favorable end for the shooting fraternity.
The one fact remains that gunowners raised themselves loudly and powerfully putting the current administration and its minions on notice.

Yet another comment by an anonymous poster afraid to leave even their internet handle and a way to reply to them. Anonymous--do your own research instead of relying on SNOPES--a not very reliable source themselves.
The directive was designed and issued during the Bush administration. It was implemented in the Obama administration, and hundreds of thousands of emails and outraged phone calls, and strong letters by both senators from Wyoming turned this implementation order upside down immediately. Peddle the liberal support of the most anti-gun administration in the history of this country (well, let's not forget Bill Clinton--maybe he outranks them) elsewhere--pseudo-intellectualism is all you offer--and pseudo facts to go along with it.

Contrived or confused, the DOD ‘directive’ is ill-advised. My advice, however, is to avoid politicizing your responses. Focus on the economic considerations, which are many. Not only is the DOD making an internally poor economic decision, the effect on states, municipalities (State and Local Police Departments), not to mention residual job losses, is reason enough to reverse the DOD policy. But making conspiratorial claims, accurate as they may be, will not serve the task at hand, specifically to reverse the policy. Instead, the hyperbole will only strengthen the case of those who really do harbor intentions of limiting our freedom to arm ourselves.

According to the NATO treaty all spent NATO rounds have to be either mutilated or reloaded in a NATO approved facility with a NATO approved inspector present. What's the status? This whole thing lasted just a week, yet here we are 1 1/2 years later, and I just got the email saying that this happened, as if it was yesterday. I think that leaving the original post saying it was Obama's doing is irresponsible. You managed to say that it had been resolved, yet you didn't bother to say that this was a result of an order from the Bush administration. I know that it's popular to blast Obama on all things anti-gun, but maybe you should be responsible and place the blame where it belongs. And if certain elements of the country weren't so hell-bent on bad mouthing the President and his fellow Dems, maybe one of them would actually THINK for themselves, and try to get to the bottom of this. So, for the minority that actually want to hear the truth, here's a link to the real story.
