However, as all criminal justice degree programs teach, gun control and firearms regulations have little to do with curbing violence. Violent crimes with other weapons stay constant, or increase after laws limiting the use and sale of guns are implemented.

NRA-ILA GRASSROOTS ALERT Vol. 19, No. 02 01/13/12
Vol. 19, No. 02 01/13/12
Federal Court Upholds Obama/Holder Gun Registration Scheme; Congressional Action Needed
Moments before this alert was to go out, a federal district court in Washington, D.C. issued a ruling upholding an Obama administration policy that requires federally licensed firearms retailers in states bordering Mexico to report multiple sales of semi-automatic rifles. The case was brought by two NRA-backed firearms retailers and by the National Shooting Sports Foundation acting on behalf of its affected members. Plaintiffs plan to appeal immediately—but in the meantime, your help is urgently needed in seeking congressional action to end this illegal policy.
Devised by Attorney General Eric Holder’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the plan requires all of the 8,700 firearm dealers in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas to report all sales of two or more semi-automatic rifles within five consecutive business days, if the rifles are larger than .22 caliber and use detachable magazines. (The plaintiffs in the case pointed out that this was about 20 times more dealers than had been subject to any similar “demand letter” before, but in today's decision the court nonetheless found the new requirement “limited in scope.”)
It is imperative that you contact your U.S. Senators and ask them to cosponsor and support S. 570.

I find it laughable that the major cause of firearms crossing the border and being used in crimes was through the facilitation of the BATF. Now, they are using their own complicity in these crimes to further limit the individual rights of U.S. citizens, and I am deeply offended by this action.
I urge you to support S570, already co-sponsored by your colleague, Senator Vitter, and deny the use of federal funds to track purchases of firearms by the Obama administration.
This is yet another way by Obama and his Attorney General to implement gun control--another chip knocked off the base supporting our constitutional rights to own and possess firearms.
Thank you for your help in this urgent matter.
Sincerely,
Gordon Hutchinson

Here is a copy of the email I have posted to Senator Mary Landrieu. I urge everyone to write their own senator in support of S570.
Dear Senator Landrieu,
I am writing to you out of great concern over this "Fast and Furious" mess. It is my opinion (and it has now been reported through major news outlets) the Holder Justice Department intended to use this program to force tracking of multiple firearms sales to individuals. Now, they are requiring reports of long gun sales over .22 caliber with detachable magazines to BATFE. Any individual who makes a purchase of two or more of these guns in a 5 day period will be reported to the federal government. These sales will be reported if they occur in any of our border states with Mexico.I find it laughable that the major cause of firearms crossing the border and being used in crimes was through the facilitation of the BATF. Now, they are using their own complicity in these crimes to further limit the individual rights of U.S. citizens, and I am deeply offended by this action.
